Get rid of the heating hazards of your router/modem

In some parts of the United Kingdom temperature seems to be going 30c or more, which means that there are many people who may be having the incidental issue with overheating broadband ISP routers and modems.

Mostly all electronic gadgets transmit high temperature, regardless of the possibility that you can’t generally feel it, and the slightest productive ones have a tendency to deliver more than most. Hence, most of the routers are designed to operate a temperature of around 40c or more (depends on the router manufacturers).

Yet in practice individuals at times place these devices in areas where the temperatures can undoubtedly climb past the devices maximum temperature capability and this can really cause trouble to the device. We will mention few tips to keep your modem/router cool.

  • Firstly, never place your router into the direct sunlight or near to any hot substance.
  • Don’t allow your pet to use the router as a sleeping carpet.  You may find it good to see your pet sleeping there but this can really cause an electrical hazard or fire.
  • Always place your router onto a solid surface (should be a cool surface) which allows the air to pass freely through the router/modem. Also make sure that you don’t place the router on a surface that doesn’t permit high temperature to escape (e.g. on a leather couch).
  • If your router is susceptible to heat problems then you can purchase a cheap cooling pad for the device. These types of cooling pad can cost around £10-£20 and mostly have a small inner USB fan.  But if your router is having extreme problems and if it’s quite old then you should buy a new one.
  • When the router isn’t in use then you should turn it off but don’t restart it quite often. It may cause drop in your internet speed.
  • Debilitate non-basic router functions when not required. The less your router needs to do, the less high temperature it will deliver and the speedier it can work. A few routers permit you to debilitate particular functions (e.g. Wi-Fi, association logs and so on.) and throughout hot climate this can help to keep the gadget running easily. It’s better not to use these functions unless you know what they really do.
