Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich is the Google’s latest version of mobile operating system. This has debuted on Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but will run on many smart phones eventually. For phones, tablets and many more this is the latest version of Android platform. It is considered to be much better than the Apple’s iOS 6, with its easy multi tasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets and for the communication and sharing methods and for many other reasons.
The changes made by Google for the Android 4.0 is better than the combination of the best of the worlds of Honeycomb (Android OS 3.x intended for tablets) and Gingerbread ( Android OS 2.3 for Smart phones). The below is what makes Android 4.0 the best.
Refined User interface
The new refined user interface is much better than the older version with bigger images, slim lines, and better contrast of objects like icons, letters, and other markings on the screen. The old “droid fonts” have been replaced with new “Roboto” with exceptionally slim line but wide letters and fonts. This makes it look more like the Windows phone than the iOS.
Multitasking is the key strength of Android and it has been made much easier and better with Android 4.0. The apps button helps you jump from one task to the other instantly with the list in the system bar. The list shows the thumbnail images of the recently closed apps, and when tapped on the thumbnail it switched to that app.
The notifications are rich and interactive helps you keep in constant touch with the incoming messages, play music tracks, and see updates from apps. These notifications appear at the top of the screen on smaller devices and in the system bar on large screen devices.
Virtual buttons in the system bar allows you to navigate instantly to back, home and recent apps. The system bar and the virtual buttons are present across all the apps, but if you want full screen viewing then you can dim them.
Lock screen allows you to access the home screen or the camera app directly by dragging an icon with a padlock to a suitable position in order to select either of the options.
Unlocking the phone with face identification is a great new feature.
Homescreen and Applications
The new home screen folders help the users to group the apps and shortcuts logically by just dragging one onto the other. To know info about the apps or to uninstall it in a jiffy, the app can be simply dragged in all Apps launcher for the desired action.
The resizable widgets are great in the Android 4.0, they let you check your mail, play music and do many more actions from the home screen itself without having to launch apps.
The lock screen actions are improved with face identification, the quick response for incoming calls without unlocking the screen by responding with a single text, improved text input, spell check, the powerful S voice, a powerful voice input engine that offers a open microphone experience and streaming voice recognition are the improved features of Android 4.0 and various other features for communication and sharing like unified calendar, visual voicemail, rich and versatile camera capabilities, redesigned Gallery app with photo editor, powerful web browsing and many other apps make this new software from Google take the smart phones to a new level.
