Top Seven Apps for the iPhone 5 For You

The iPhone 5 improved on the 4s with a better screen, a better camera and a seriously slinky chipset. The app makers have learned to take advantage of the slicker graphics, better video replay and faster action of the device – these are seven of the best from the new crop of creative goodies.

GarageBand

Let’s be honest. On the MacBook, GarageBand is essentially pointless. There aren’t any proper drum sounds and the whole trackpad click on the keyboard thing is unwieldy at best. Even using keys instead feels pretty silly. On the iPhone 5, though, doodling around with little compositions feels more appropriate. Maybe it’s because you can use both thumbs, while holding the phone horizontally, to play – or maybe it’s just that the faster chip means the whole thing is more responsive. Whatever the reason, GarageBand suddenly became fun.

Camera+

This is easily the best way to turn the better camera on the iPhone 5 into something that feels more like an actual digital compact. Camera+ gives you access to more intuitive and sensitive aperture and exposure control; a more detailed focusing capability; multi-shot modes; image stabilising; and a much better digital zoom function. Snap, click and smile!

Flipboard

News junkies and online magpies will love Flipboard. Essentially Pinterest for news, Flipboard allows you to customise and collate stories in any area you like. You can scour the web for inspiring images too. Flip between stories as you wish, share them instantly. You’ve got the world in your pocket.

BBC iPlayer

The standard by which all other streaming TV and radio content is judged, the iPlayer on the iPhone is something of a revelation. It’s easy to use, and unlike some of its snippier rivals it doesn’t mess with the AirPlay tech used by the device. As a result, you get smooth, extremely vivid pictures and a proper widescreen feel on the full screen view.

The Room

It’s simple, it’s brilliant – and it’s pretty scary too. One of the most successful game apps in recent history, The Room gets freakier and more involving with the iPhone 5’s extra speed and enhanced graphic capabilities. The concept is simple, like all good scary stories – you’re all on your own, in a dark room, with an odd locked box for company. Or is it locked? And what’s inside…? Get ready to creep yourself out with better graphics than ever before.

30/30

A really good looking retro-feel task manager, 30/30 enables you to keep track of all your appointments and manage your days into work and play. Schedule meetings, segment your obligations into types, each with their own lovely icon, and generally take control of your life again. From booking your next holiday to birthday reminders, it’s all there.

Infinity Blade II

Why not treat yourself to a proper RPG, with smooth, swishy graphics and a proper storyline? Infinity Blade II ticks every gaming box you could want from an iPhone app – and yes, it’s one of the more expensive offerings out there (it’s the priciest one on this list) but it’s still a lot cheaper than a console cartridge. Just be careful you don’t get too enthusiastic or you might have to visit www.iphonerepairs.co.uk to repair the results of a dropped phone…
