Over the period, people have thought about many things as mere fantasy but technology has found a way to make them a possible reality. Not so long back, people thought of flying to other places as something that is only possible in fairy tales and science fiction. But now, we are not only witnessing it happen but could experience it ourselves within a few clicks on the internet and the distance that took days to travel before could be reached within hours through aeroplanes. If you think about it, technology has made a lot of things that were thought to be impossible into a common reality for everyone. Think about mobile phones for that matter. No matter how far you are, you could talk to anyone as if they were right next to you. If you start wondering about the things technology has made possible over the years, you couldn’t help but wonder what more it could achieve in the coming years.

Even the internet, which we seem to be not able to live without today, was merely a thought a few decades ago. Now, that same internet has become an everyday thing and has woven itself into our lives intangibly. This leads us to the Metaverse that became the talk of the world lately after the parent company of Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram has named itself Meta.

But Metaverse isn’t a new concept. If you are familiar with the novel Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson, you might already be a bit familiar with the idea. But isn’t it from the Science Fiction novel? You might ask. Although for most people it might seem far fetched, this Metaverse is going to be a full-fledged reality within a decade. Since the concept of Metaverse is becoming more and more popular each day, there are a lot of debates around the topic. But however it might seem now to people, not so far into the future, everyone will see the wonders we can achieve with the Metaverse.

Now let us dig a little deeper into the topic and have a look at how this Metaverse could impact online gambling as we know it today. Before that, let’s just have a brief look at what this Metaverse is.

What is Metaverse?

If you are a fan of Science fiction, concepts like Metaverse might not seem that uncommon to you like it does for others. There are a lot of novels and movies that brushed up on similar concepts over the years. If we go back to the novel Snow Crash, we will find people in the novel interacting with each other in the Metaverse using devices similar to the VR headsets we use today. After Mark Zuckerberg renamed Facebook’s parent company to Meta, a lot of people are talking about Metaverse, but a large portion of them don’t really know what Metaverse actually is.

To put it into simpler terms, you could say that Metaverse is a kind of digital universe where people can interact with each other, exchange things (NFTs) that could be used in the real world too and do many other things digitally. Someone might ask, isn’t that similar to what we are doing with the internet today? The answer is, yes. But the main difference between the internet and the Metaverse is that, with the internet, we can download, upload, interact with people and exchange things all in 2D but Metaverse on the other hand will be able to provide 3D interactions. You could think of it as something that clubs both Virtual reality and Augmented reality. Simply put, the difference could be that with the internet, you sit behind the screen and do things, but in Metaverse, you will be inside it, and explore it as you do with the real world. Unlike the internet, you will populate the Metaverse by becoming part of it.

A lot of top tech companies are in the process of building the Metaverse, so you can be assured that within a few years, you would come to witness at least one Metaverse. Not only can you interact with other people in the Metaverse, but you can also host events, attend concerts and do many more things that you couldn’t attend physically. There are a lot of different events that are being hosted in the Metaverse every day. Not so long ago you might even have heard about a couple getting married in the Metaverse too. It came closer to reality than we might have thought before. With the Metaverse expanding its reach, let’s see how it would impact online gambling.

How will the Metaverse impact Online gambling?

The gambling industry has undergone several changes and shifts to make things comfortable for the players. From brick and mortar casinos to online casino sites gamblers have found ways to make gambling enjoyable and more comfortable. With the Metaverse expanding, several people are wondering how it could impact the gambling industry today. If you are a gambling enthusiast, you will not be disappointed with how the Metaverse could make the gambling experience better for the players.

Metaverse could be the solution to the issues that come with both land-based and online casinos. Many top casino sites are also pitching in for their Metaverse versions as they could bring online gambling alive. With the Metaverse, the players could experience gambling in a more real and engaging way. Online casinos were also just an idea a few years ago, now it has become a billion-dollar industry. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have shown more interest in online casinos than before. They have provided the players with a more comfortable way to gamble right from the comfort of their own homes. But spending hours and hours in front of the screen in the same position becomes challenging at some point. Not to mention the live casino experience that the players miss out on.

With Metaverse you have a live casino experience from anywhere. You don’t need to sit in front of the screen for hours either. Once you log in to the Metaverse, you can do things as you do in the land-based casino. You can walk into the casino in the Metaverse, experience the neon lights, the crowd, the sounds, everything like it would be in a brick and mortar casino. You can sit across the table, place real-time bets, interact with live dealers and other players; walk around the casino and even buy NFTs with your earnings at the casino. In Metaverse, you can even play according to the posture of the other players and place bets based on their body language like you do in land-based casinos.

Instead of asking ‘what’ changes the Metaverse will bring to online gambling, the question we must pose now is, when is it going to happen? Because Metaverse is going to bring about a lot of changes to online gambling as we know it now, the sooner Metaverse gets woven into reality, the sooner are we going to overcome the limitations that both online casinos and brick and mortar casinos have. But as per how many people will welcome the possibilities that Metaverse brings to online casinos depends on the individual players. Some might be comfortable with less interaction and online casinos the way they are today might be what they would be comfortable with. But for the others who are ready to explore a different level of interaction, Metaverse is never-ending.
