Improvements in Android 4.4 KitKat
After much anticipation, Google launched their latest version of Android 4.4 also known as KitKat. Why is this big news? Well, while version 4.3, or Jelly Bean, only brought in minor changes that disappointed the most avid Android users, 4.4 has a much bigger upgrade that greatly improves the “Android experience.”
Keep in mind that even though KitKat was initially available only for the Google Nexus 5, it soon became available for other phones running Android software. So, if you’re an Android user wanting to keep tabs on what you’ll be getting on your smartphone, you’re in the right place.
While you wait for it on your phone or are still deciding if 4.4 is worth the upgrade, here’s a list of the most notable changes and benefits that might convince you:
Manage your phone’s memory like never before: A great thing about KitKat is that it’s designed to run smoothly on devices with as little as 512MB RAM. Google has provided developers with a ton of tools to take advantage of their memory management improvements, leading to smoother multitasking in Android devices (since it optimizes the memory usage while running several apps simultaneously).
This is great for workaholics – if you are using apps that compliment your company’s telephone system (like the one I got from this provider) it’ll be much easier to manage your office on the go from your device!
Android Device Manager: Android 4.4 KitKat comes with it a new support system called Android Device Manager that allows users to find their device (phone or tablet) using a browser with controls that make the device ring, therefore tracking it and even locking it if necessary.
Better Caller ID: With a fresh new design and other welcomed changes, the Android default phone app also got tweaked. This new dialer prioritizes your contact list based on the people you call the most, placing them on top so they’re easy to find – which makes calling that much easier.
The dialer also offers a new field to search for contacts in Google Maps – pulling up information for businesses near you. When you receive a call from someone that’s not on your contacts list, Android will use information from Google Maps to look for matches.
Improved Google Now: Thanks to the 4.4 upgrades, you can easily activate Google Now by saying “Ok Google” from the Google Now screen or your home screen. You no longer need to press buttons, only start talking.
Immersive Mode: Let’s face it… Android’s status bar and navigation buttons can get in the way when you’re reading a book or watching a video. Now, Android 4.4 hides them so you’ve got as much space as possible to immerse yourself in your media without distractions.
So, what are you waiting for, upgrade now! These improvements are sure to optimize your Android experience. Personally, I was impressed with this new version.
