How mobile technology can improve your health
Mobiles aren’t just for talking or texting, they are more than that. They can be your health monitors too. Here are 5 ways mobile tech can improve your health.
1. Tracking physical activity
We take a lot of care and are much concerned about losing weight by increasing our physical activity by walking in the park every day, reducing our calories intake, using the stairs instead of the lift to reach home or office, dieting etc. But, when we do so many things to maintain our health how do we keep a track of all these. Is in not common to forget? But if do not remember them then what is the point of doing all these?
So, health monitoring is surely important. Writing them down on a diary could be boring and you might lose it. But, if you record it in your phone there is no such risk. There are many apps in the mobile that can help you record your physical activity, your food intake etc. One such app is Fit Bit that aims at recording these events and weight loss is the key benefit of this app.
2. Reference to the doctor based on symptoms
Sometimes, a patient rushes to the hospital with a big disorder which can be curable but might not know to consult which doctor. The consultant doctor might not diagnose it properly and refer the patient to another consultant and so on. This is a waste of lot of money and time for the patient as medical procedures are costly.
A NGO is trying to work on this issue. They donate iPads and mobiles to clinics in remote areas where medical facilities are less. These devices are pre loaded with technology to determine the disease with symptoms and refer the patient correctly This organization is working to train the clinicians in underdeveloped countries to improve the patient care.
3.Visiting the right doctor
We all visit the doctor when not in the right health and go through tedious moments, unnecessary check- in, filling the paper work etc. It is natural to be curious about our health problem and it is our right to know what is wrong with our health
A mobile application for health called the Itriage is designed to improve the doctor and patient consultation time. This app helps in identifying the symptoms and then refers the user to the right medical consultant. Appointments and ER check-ins can also be made with this app.
4. Connected Hospitals
Hospitals nowadays are turning to mobiles for their medical care methods. Hospitals are relying on the patient and staff mobile care coordination system. The mobile tools for patient engagement includes health promotions, registration functions, medical compliance etc.
5. Veteran affairs health services

They recently announced that they are giving 1000 iPads loaded with health apps to the family members of the veterans. This way the care givers of the veterans can take better care of them. All this is a part of a program called Clinic-in-Hand.
