Link up with services for emergency

The most important thing to link your mobile phone in emergency is to call 911 directly from your mobile. If your phone is linked with 911 and dial it in case of a emergency, the phone call will be forwarded to police dispatch. The dispatcher will then find your whereabouts  and figure out which emergency services you need. In case you travel, list the emergency number of that place in your speed dial.

Stay at one place

In case you are stuck at a remote area or in your car and locked and cannot move, stay there once you call the emergency services. Your position will be triangulated. Depending on how much time your communication reaches the tower, they know where you are located. So, do not move away from that place.

Reception

If your phone does not have a signal and you cannot place a call when you are in a remote area, move to higher ground till your phone catches at least one point of the signal. Cell tower are located more in the populated areas, so if you are going to visit a less populated area where there is a possibility of less phone towers, inform friends or family where and when you are travelling.

Charge your battery

It’s always advised to charge your phone battery full when you are leaving home, because you never know what need will arise and you have to use your mobile. This is especially true when you are travelling. So, charge your phone full and it’s wise to buy a car adapter kit for charging it in thecar when you do not have a phone charger. If you are carrying a laptop with you then you can charge your phone using a USB cable by connecting it to your laptop.

Some cell phones can also be recharged with a basic USB cable. If you have a laptop handy, you may be able to recharge a cell phone with it.

 

Emergency Contacts

Have all your contact numbers in case of emergencies clearly listed in your phone. Set one or two numbers in speed dial too. Doing so will help in case you, are incapacitated for calling and someone who finds you can do so quickly to inform about you emergency. It will also come in handy in case your phones is stolen or lost.
