Are you facing connection problems with your Wi-Fi network? Have you poor wireless signal reception or video streaming? Then here are some tips for improving the performance of your wireless network.

wifi tips

  • Your router needs to be repositioned. Try moving your router, place it in the centre of the coverage area where it is good, you will have to move the modem too. When you move the router to the right spot it increases the range and the speed of the internet.
  • Always keep router on an unobstructed spot for maximum range and do not hide it under a desk of furniture.
  • Always use just a single wireless standard for both the router and the Wi-Fi device. It ensures best performance.
  • Use the routers and Wi-Fi devices of the new standards, as they support high speed and best performance.
  • For getting high speed on the wireless routers you need to use WPA2 security which is encrypted with AES. If you use WEP or WPA security which is encrypted with TKIP will reduce the bandwidth.
  • To increase the range and performance change the wireless channel. Especially if the neighboring networks too are set on the similar channel then it will reduce the speed.
  • Change your router’s channel width that is set by default. Use channels that have a width of 40 MHz on wireless N or AC routers for high speed.
  • For changing the channel width that is set by default your N and AC routers, go to the control panel of your router and in the wireless settings change the width to 40 MHz.
  • If the router you are using is a very old one, then it is time to upgrade it. Remember cheap ones do not support all the technologies like the costlier ones. Buy a standard one like 802.11n or 802.11ac.
  • Buy standard routers like MIMO that increases speed and range or support the 5GHz frequency band and is less congested.
  • Do not throw away the old one but connect it to the new router so that you can use the old router for the old device and the new router for the new ones. This way the performance of the wireless network is increased.
  • It is not only the router that you need to upgrade but also the wireless adaptor. Upgrading your router to 802.11n or 802.11ac will increase the range and speed but if you upgrade the adapter then it will increase the performance more.

These are some easy tips to increase your Wi-Fi performance. Follow them and enjoy the enhanced speed of internet.
