Over the last decade, the technology landscape has seen Cloud Hosting evolve as a preferred type of hosting around the world. Cloud Hosting in India has also kept up with trend and users are opting for all types of Cloud based services including public, private, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions. While most users understand the difference between private and public Cloud Hosting, we have found some confusion in hybrid and multi-cloud hosting services. In this article, we will highlight the differences between a Hybrid and a Multi Cloud hosting solution.

What is a Hybrid Cloud?

A Hybrid Cloud, in simple terms, is a mix of a private and public cloud. Hence, organizations opting for a Hybrid Cloud solution have an in-house data center hosting the private cloud and the data center of the public cloud service provider. Further, there is an encrypted connection between the two allowing the data to flow between them in a secure manner. It offers the benefits of both private and public cloud services.

What is a Multi Cloud?

A Multi Cloud strategy involves using multiple Cloud services from different/single Cloud service providers for separate tasks. Therefore, an organization opting for a Multi Cloud employs the services of one provider for a certain task and chooses another provider/cloud service for a different task. Hence, there are multiple Cloud services being used at any given time. A Multi Cloud strategy can involve public, private, and also hybrid cloud services, depending on the requirement.

Differences between Hybrid and Multi Cloud Services

There are two major differences between a Hybrid Cloud and a Multi Cloud:

1.       Type of Clouds used

A Hybrid Cloud always includes a private and public cloud service. On the other hand, a Multi Cloud can include a public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud and also include physical infrastructure.

2. Usage

In a Hybrid Cloud, the private and public cloud work together for similar tasks. Hence, the processes and data intersect each other. For example, if an application is running in a Hybrid Cloud, then it possibly uses the public cloud for balancing the load of the website and application while the database resides in the private cloud. Hence, when a user visits the website, both the private and public cloud work together to fulfill the request.

In a Multi Cloud, a Cloud service is employed separately for each task or set of tasks. Also, there is no interaction between the two cloud services. For example, if an application is running in a Multi Cloud, then it might choose one Cloud service for its networking requirements and another service for database storage and management.

Summing Up

While both Hybrid and Multi Cloud services have their own benefits. Before you opt for one ensure that you assess your requirements well and find a Cloud service that helps you offer a well-performing website to your users.
