Smartphones are not just any regular phones. This is high tech all in one device that plays the role of a personal computer, music player, camera, game console etc. Smartphones are one of the best gadgets in the world. There are a lot of smartphones available in the market today and it is a trend to have one these days. We can buy Smartphones of our choice that caters to our needs and suits us perfectly. This gadget has a lot of advantages but like a coin has two sides smartphones have disadvantages too. Here are some of them.

smartphone disadvantage

Cost

Smartphones come with a heavy price tag. Cost is one major disadvantage of smartphones.  Compared to the ordinary phones, smartphones costs considerably more. Users have to sign long term contracts with carriers. The limited amount of talktime and the additional cost for internet access all make the smartphone more costly by an additional 50 to 100 dollars per month.

Security

Users can access internet over their smartphone through data package or Wi-Fi networks. But security of the date is a big concern. There are free wireless networks at public places like hotels, restaurants etc. These networks are insecure as they are not encrypted and when you send or receive sensitive data using these networks they pose a risk of your system being hacked.  Always use public networks only if they are encrypted and they ask you for a password when you try to use the network. This means the network is protected. Access only sites that have web address that starts with “https”. This is a protected site.

Typing

This is another disadvantage of smartphones. They have in built keyboard and a built on keyboard for typing messages, emails, notes etc. Unlike the computers these smartphones have a smaller keyboard and the alphabets are closely packed. All these factors limit the user’s speed of typing. Another factor is typing with one hand and supporting the phone with other may be stressful and might cause injuries with over use. Also typing different versions of the keyboard for symbols etc also decreases the speed of typing.

Distraction

Smart phones are distracters which, reduce the productivity of work and keeps the users off their tasks. It is only natural to check email, send texts, play games browse internet on a device that easily fits your pocket and you carry it anywhere. This decreases the amount of time spent on work or education.
